Porter's thoughts

I sometimes wonder what runs through my kids brains, and every once in a while I get a glimpse at some pretty profound stuff. Today, after having lunch with Colby at his office, the boys and I were driving home and Porter was chattering non-stop as usual. I was kind of listening when he all of a sudden hit me with "Mom, does Jesus have a wife?"
My reply, "Ummmm, yes, I believe he does. It makes sense that he would, but the scriptures don't really tell us for sure."
Porter, "Then, how do you know?"
Me: "Well, since the whole gospel centers around families, don't you think Jesus should have a family, too?"
Porter (quiet for a minute): "Well mom, does Jesus have kids?"
Me: "Ummmmm....huh....well, the scriptures don't tell us for sure, but I believe he probably does."
Porter: "Then how do you know?"
Me: "Well, I don't know for sure. That is just one of the questions we'll have to ask when we get to heaven."
Porter: "But when we get to heaven, we'll be dead! We won't be able to ask any questions."
Me: "Well, you won't have your body, but your spirit can still talk."
Then, I reminded him of the lesson with the glove representing our body and our hand representing our spirit, and he seemed to get it. Then, he was just quiet the rest of the way home. I decided to just be quiet myself and let him ponder his thoughts....they were pretty deep and I needed to ponder them myself!
The things kids think about....amazing!

"2" cute!

Okay, so I always wondered why everyone talked about the "terrible twos". Korinne and Porter were both delightful at 2 years old! They didn't turn into monsters until they were 3. Then, along comes our caboose...aha! This is the terrible twos! Okay, I guess I'm a believer! This kid can throw tantrums like you wouldn't believe, with a very high pitched screaching to go along with it. That must be why the dog in the yard behind ours is always howling. I guess it's a good thing he's so dang cute...or I guess he wouldn't survive! Does anyone see a problem when you have to send your own kid out of nursery to be with his dad because he's being so rotten and some other 2 year old keeps telling him to "hush"?
Anyway, this is what I found last night when I told Holt to go find his binki so he could go to bed (yes, he still sleeps with a binki, and I don't care!!)

Yes...that's 2 binkis in his mouth. It must be really difficult to choose, so 2 is better than one right?

And, he always has to be one of the boys...he's pretty good at holding his own.

Porter and his good buddy Cody are pretty good role models, don't ya think?

And, lastly, just one more comment. Colby and Korinne went skiing the other day (I had to stay home with the boys), and I told him to take the camera and capture a few action shots. She's getting pretty good and I wanted to have some pictures to prove it...so this is what Colby came up with....

Some great nacho action!! Look at how she dips and then bites....amazing! Thanks for all the great pics, babes....they're amazing!! I think I'll take her next time and Colby can stay with the boys! Oh well, they had fun and that's what counts, right?

Big Brave Boy

Porter had his 5 year old checkup at the doctor's office today, which includes (gasp!) shots!! Oh no! He only needed some moderate persuasion to pee in the cup, and of course, his checkup went well. Although, the Dr. let me know that he is still on the shrimpy side for his age. (I really don't think there will be a future in football). Then, came the dreaded shots! He was frightened, and it took some persuasion and promises of treats to get him to sit on the table...(in the meantime, I was having flashbacks to Korinne's 5 year old shots...I was six months pregnant and literally lying on top of her on the table to hold her still while she screamed...good times!) But he just sat there, squeezed my hand, said "ouch" quietly a couple of times (he had to get 4 shots!), and got a little misty eyed. When it was done, he jumped off the table and said "Okay! All done! Let's go get treats!" I was so swelled up with pride...my strong, brave, albeit little, boy! "Okay bud...off to Costco for Berry smoothies!" Wow! What a difference between girls and boys! They never cease to amaze me.

Porter's 5!!!

Porter's birthday has rolled around again...and we had a weeklong celebration! After all....you only turn 5 once!

We had our family party on Sunday night, which is always a little crazy with so many cousins running around...
Look at that grin!! He's been wanting to add a "storm trooper" to his Star Wars repertoire for months....and Grandma Lori finally came through!

And what 5 year old birthday would be complete without a Star Wars battle scene birthday cake? Korinne and Porter designed the epic battle scene....I'm sure it has some strategic purpose that I am just too dense to know about!

Tuesday was his actual birthday...so I let him dictate our entire day! It started with a few rounds of Mario Kart on the Wii between Porter and me...or course he slaughtered me every time....why does it make me so dizzy and doesn't seem to affect the kids at all? He's always thrilled that he can beat mom. Next came a few hours at the treehouse with lunch at Arby's afterward (of course...don't the treehouse and Arby's go hand in hand?) I was ready for a nap by the time we got home...but instead I was instructed to play several rounds of Double Shot followed by a Star Wars battle where I was, as always, the bad guy (whichever one Porter wanted me to be), and I am always getting annihalated by the good guy...aka, Porter. After Colby got home, we told Porter we would go anywhere he wanted for dinner. At first, he said Maddox...we were very excited. But, then he changed his mind to...you guessed it...McDonalds! Sick! Anyway, it was his day, so we couldn't argue...so off we went to the germ fest. Oh well, he had a great birthday!

Saturday was his friend birthday party at the Dinosaur Park...that was loads of fun! 8 4 & 5 year olds running around as excited as could be...and we added loads of sugar to the mix just to make it more fun! No really...it was a good time!

Wow! What a fun week! Porter is such a fun kid to have around...his smile and laugh just melt my heart! Happy Birthday buddy! I hope it was everything you wanted it to be!
Holt had to have his turn trying out Porter's new MP3 player....he wants to be just like his big brother!
I'm a little behind....as always!
A few more Christmas pics!

I guess I should just start where I left off...this will be the abreviated version of our lives the past few months... I won't go into much detail.
Okay...Halloween was fun. Dressed up, got lots of candy, that's the main goal right?

Next came mine and Korinne's birthdays and Thanksgiving. Korinne and I went to lunch with my mom to celebrate our birthdays on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and we ran into a blast from the past. It's actually a pretty funny story, so ask me about it if you want to hear it!

We had Korinne's party with her friends at the Treehouse, and it was loads of fun!We had Korinne's baptism on Dec. 6th and it was beautiful and a very special day for all of us. I still can't believe that my baby girl is that old already! Wasn't she just born? Everyone always says how fast the time flies, but it still amazes me at how fast it does! We were so proud of her for her decision and she was so excited! It was perfect. Hayley gave a talk on baptism, Gdpa Dave gave a talk on the Holy Ghost, and Porter and the cousins sang "When Jesus Christ was Baptized" . It all turned out perfect and I hope Korinne will always remember this special day!
Christmas was extremely fun...especially all of the excitement and anticipation in the days leading up to it! I absolutely love Christmas with my young kids...I don't think it can get any better! Everything is so magical to them and I love experiencing all of it through their eyes. It's hard to believe that the holiday season has already come and gone...again! But we had a wonderful time together!

I even caught a special visitor at our house in the middle of the night on Christmas Eve!

There's a very brief glimpse into our lives the past few months....Hopefully I can keep more up to date in 2009! Happy New Year everyone!

Okay...I have seriously neglected this blog for a while...I'm going to be updating soon...but since it's so late right now, I think I'll just go to bed instead. I will update this week...that's my goal!
